About Bruce Lumley

Hi, I’m Bruce Lumley, Thoughtsmith and Consulting Hypnotist.

When I was younger, 35 years old to be exact, I had a surgery that didn’t go so well. I was left with what was termed a “post surgical pain syndrome” and told I would have to live with this pain for the rest of my life. I was given no option but to “accept it” and take medication to reduce the pain. It was as if I had no support. Pushing through the pain and muscle spasm I eventually sprained my back and spent 3 months unable to work. Thankfully I didn’t lose my job. Everyone I knew was sympathetic, but nobody could help me. Even my then wife became angry with me after a few months for refusing to take the doctors’ advice and accept a greatly reduced quality of life complete with pain killers.

In my search for answers I attended a monthly meeting of a “chronic pain sufferers” group. There were about 50 people in the room that night. Many in wheelchairs, many very sick. And many were addicted to painkillers. They allowed me to speak and tell my story. I carefully explained the now entrenched “pain, spasm, pain” cycle I was in. The consensus of the room was “most of us have something similar, but, you’ll never get out of that”. I remember thanking them for allowing me to speak, but that I was unwilling to accept defeat. I had never felt so alone.

Now, I wasn’t a hypnotist at that time, but I knew that if I accepted everyone else’s version of reality that it would become mine, and such would be my life.

I had two small children who needed their daddy to be well again and a big mortgage that needed to be paid. I needed to fix this and that was that. I became angry and determined.
I saw 13 doctors over 3 years pushing through muscle pain and spasm day after day. They understood the problem but none of them had a solution. One night after tossing and turning for hours, in pain and unable to sleep, I made my way to the living room and turned on the TV. There was an hour long infomercial running for “Burton Goldberg’s Alternative Medicine Encyclopaedia” (This was late 1990’s, pre-internet). It is still on Amazon. That book changed my life.

In the pages of that book I found a medical doctor who had branched out into alternative therapies, including Osteopathy, Neural Therapy, Orthomolecular medicine, Cranio-Sacral therapy and even Reiki. Several visits to him and one year later I had recovered 90% physically, but was still suffering with a subconsciously entrenched pain cycle. He had done so much but could not help me with that last piece of the puzzle.

My search led me to a hypnotist in Colorado who had worked with chronic pain. I spent 4 days with her and had two sessions per day. We covered a lot of ground, but the best part was that I learned how to do self hypnosis. I knew I was on the right track, this was the piece I needed. I had learned how to interrupt a pain cycle at will. A few more months of practice and I was pain free. And “they” said it couldn’t be done.

In February 2002 I received my diploma from The National Guild of Hypnotists and shortly after quit my job as an electronics technician to open my first office. (I’ve taken many courses and done many upgrades since then). Within 2 years I was booking 3 weeks in advance, seeing clients 6 days a week, and doing a radio talk show on Sunday mornings.

My message to you at this point is that there are two ways to look at it. Do you want to be the creator or author of your own life or do you want to walk through life in reactive mode letting others create your life for you? Sadly, most choose the second option.

I have helped thousands of people make positive changes in their lives. One of the most satisfying things I hear in discussions with clients is “I never thought of it that way before”. That moment of connection with a client is priceless.

If you decide to work with me it is as if we walk together for a while until you get what you need, and then we part friends. I will be your ally. It is not only a privilege, but humbling to be part of your life, and I will always be available in future if you need.

Although people learn a lot about themselves during sessions with me it is not about self discovery. My sessions are about change. They are directive, designed to eliminate subconscious blocks and align your thoughts with what you want to accomplish. I have developed many different ways of doing that, hence the term “thoughtsmith”.
Many people leave this world regretting never having used the gifts they were born with. Why be one of those people?

Put simply, you are the author of your life. You create your reality. I can help you.Schedule a free, relaxed 15 minute consultation using the form below.

During the consultation you will:

-Explain thoroughly what you wish to change or accomplish, and what true success would mean for you.

-Learn how hypnosis and neuro-linguistic programming work, how we are different, and how we can help you.

Remember, hypnotizability is less important than your desire for change. People can absorb positive thoughts in other ways, including simply conversation.
